It’s been nearly five years since we said goodbye to the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, and yet, the loss is no less painful than on that dreary day in Scranton, PA.

A few months back, it was reported that NBC would be reviving hit workplace mockumentary series, The Office, no doubt a move inspired by the successful return of another National Broadcast Company series, Will & Grace. The resurrection won’t be a remake or a reboot, but instead, a continuation of the show, documenting the day-to-day lives of several familiar Dunder Mifflin employees and integrating some new faces along the way.

Unfortunately, Steve Carell will NOT be reprising his role as the paper company’s boss, the hilarious simpleton Michael Scott, but other original cast members have expressed interest in returning to The Office, most notably, John Krasinski. Dreamy paper purveyor Jim Halpert has made it clear that he’s game for a return to Scranton, saying: “It’s one of those things where I’m sure people don’t believe me when I say I would totally do it, because the truth is I would totally do it.”

While promoting his new film, A Quiet Place, which currently holds a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, Krasinski restated his desire to return to the series, even if it’s in a unique setting.

“I don’t think anybody in our show sees that we didn’t end it the way we wanted to end it. We’re one of the very lucky shows that got to end when we wanted to, how we wanted to. So I don’t know how it exciting it would be to do a run of the show, ’cause you don’t want to retread old things and have people not be as excited about it as they are now.

I think the UK thing that I always have pitched and wanted to do is that Christmas special thing, where we do a Christmas special this year and then two years from now, or three years from now, we do another one. I love that idea coming back finding out where everybody is. I would totally be down for that.”

What the Jack Ryan star is saying makes a lot of sense. Having run for nine seasons, The Office hardly ever saw a drop in quality and ended its tenure on a satisfying high note, something most long-running series cannot say. Ultimately, though, NBC has the final word, even if something like a Christmas Special might be in the show’s, and fans’, best interest.

Five years after it ended its ninth and final season, it’s been revealed that The Office is returning to television.

The other month, news broke that NBC has scheduled the revival of the hit workplace mockumentary comedy series for the 2018/19 season. It won’t be a remake or a reboot though and will instead continue the lives of the hapless workforce at the offices of Dunder Mifflin’s branch in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

From what we understand, the revival will feature a blend of new and old characters, and it’s been made clear that Steve Carell will NOT be reprising his role as the branch’s regional manager, Michael Scott. Though a little disappointing, it’s not all that surprising considering that Carell left the original run of The Office after season 7. As for who WILL be returning, well, that’s still up in the air. But if John Krasinski has his way, he might be back for more.

Speaking on Ellen earlier today, the actor, who played Jim Halpert for the entire run of the show, revealed that as of yet, he hasn’t gotten a call about returning:

“I did hear [about ‘The Office’ revival], on the Internet. Guess who didn’t get a call? Me!”

Though he said he was a bit upset about not being asked back, he revealed that he’d totally be up for more, saying:

“Are you kidding? I’d love to get that gang back together.”

Krasinski’s comments here follow on from his co-star, Jenna Fischer, who also said that she’d love to return. She too, though, has yet to get a call, which could indicate that either the project has fizzled out, is still in the earliest stages of development or just has no plans to include Jim and Pam in its storyline.

If that’s the case, well, we’re not too crazy about the idea of a load of new characters cluttering things up, but fingers crossed that the break has done the writers some good and they’ll be able to up their game again. It will also be interesting to see just how many of the old cast members return – since it doesn’t sound like Krasinski and Fischer will be. At least, not yet.

Five years after it ended its ninth and final season, it’s been revealed that The Office is returning to television.

Last month, news broke that NBC has scheduled the revival of the hit workplace mockumentary comedy series for the 2018/19 season. It won’t be a remake or a reboot though and will instead continue the lives of the hapless workforce at the offices of Dunder Mifflin’s branch in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Though a little disappointing, it’s not all that surprising considering that Carell left the original run of The Office after season 7. As for who WILL be returning, well, that’s still up in the air. But if Jenna Fischer has her way, she’ll definitely be back for more.

Jenna Fischer Says She'd Love To Be Part Of The Office Revival

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress teased a possible return to the show that made her career, saying:

“I think that’s for networks to figure out if I were to be asked. I haven’t been approached about it and don’t know anything about it. … But I love Pam!”

Continuing on, she said:

“I would be honored to come back in any way that I am able to. I loved playing that character and as long as Greg Daniels is the person in charge and the visionary behind it, then I would absolutely be up for it. We just have to get Mindy [Kaling], B.J. Novak, Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, Mike Schur to write some episodes. That show was so great because of the talent involved behind the scenes, not just on the screen.”

Of course, we’d be all for seeing Fischer return. Pam – and her relationship with Jim – was really the beating heart of The Office and one of its strongest aspects. So to have her back at Dunder Mifflin for this revival would be a real treat. Let’s just hope these new episodes hark back to the glory days of the show’s earlier years instead of the more mixed later seasons.

We’re not crazy about the idea of a load of new characters cluttering things up, but fingers crossed that the break has done the writers some good and they’ll be able to up their game again. It will also be interesting to see just how many of the old cast members return.

The Office Revival Coming In 2018/19 Season; Features Old And New Characters

Four years after it ended its tenth and final season, it’s been revealed that The Office is returning to television.

Sources have confirmed to TVLine that NBC has scheduled the revival of the hit workplace mockumentary comedy series for the 2018/19 season. It won’t be a remake or a reboot and will instead continue the lives of the hapless workforce at the offices of Dunder Mifflin’s branch in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

From what we understand, the revival will feature a blend of new and old characters, and jt’s been made clear that Steve Carell will NOT be reprising his role as the branch’s regional manager, Michael Scott. Though a little disappointing, it’s not all that surprising considering that Carell left the original run of The Office after season 7. TVLine comments that the search to find a new boss is underway, but no names have been floated as of yet.

This news is certainly a bit of surprise, but it was also revealed a few months ago that such a move was on the cards. NBC president Bob Greenblatt said that he had given The Office showrunner Greg Daniels an “open invitation” to revive the series whenever he wanted. It’s also thought that this revival is inspired by the success of the recent continuation of Will & Grace, which has been met with excellent ratings and reviews.

Let’s just hope these new episodes hark back to the glory days of The Office‘s earlier years instead of the more mixed later seasons. We’re not crazy about the idea of a load of new characters cluttering the show, but fingers crossed that the break has done the writers some good and they’ll be able to up their game again. It will also be interesting to see just how many of the old cast return – something tells us the new Jack Ryan John Krasinski won’t, for example.
